SD soccer tryouts – updated Feb 8

There are lots of other clubs in San Diego, but these are most of the clubs that are convenient for Southbay families. I need to be clear that I am NOT affiliated with any of these clubs!  I found the links to club websites, and I found contact & tryout info to put up here, but if you see anything that needs correcting, let me know.

Tryouts for many clubs have been completed, but you can always contact those clubs (call, email, or check the club’s website) to ask if there are any teams with openings.  REMEMBER: A club coach will never turn away a great player, even if tryouts are over!

Notts Forest FC – Clairemont area

• tryouts at the Hickman Youth Complex. More info HERE.

• main fields:  Hickman Complex, north of Clairemont Mesa Blvd near the 805
• cost per year: I could not find any info on the Notts site, and I don’t know anyone on Notts Forest, so I have no clue how much it costs for a year of Notts Forest soccer. If anyone wants to let me know, email me, and I’ll post it here!

Bonita Rebels – Bonita & East Chula Vista area

• tryouts:  BOYS U8-U14, Feb 8 & 11, 5:30-7pm
• tryouts: GIRLS U8-U14, Feb 16 & 18, 5:30-7pm
• all tryouts are at Eastlake High School on the turf statium field

• main fields: Southwestern College, Rohr Park, Harvest Park, Otay Ranch HS, Chula Vista Community Park
• cost per year: I couldn’t find this on their website, but if I remember correctly, they’re about $500, and that includes uniform and league fees. Tournament fees, warmups, and coaching fees are extra.  If anyone knows exactly, let me know, and I’ll post it here.

Nomads – Clairemont area

• tryouts: BU10-BU12, Feb 8 & 10, 5:15pm at Kinsell Field, Hickman Youth Complex. Info for other ages is on the Nomads website.

• cost per year: $1200 includes uniform, league fees, and coaching fees. Tournaments are extra.

Albion – Pt. Loma, , Ocean Beach, Sea World area

• tryouts: BU11-BU12, Feb 8, 10, 15, & 17.   4:30-6pm at Robb Field. Info for other ages is on the Albion Tryout Flyer.

• cost per year: not sure.. Anyone from Albion want to tell me? All I could find was that $395 (non-refudable) is due at registration with more due later. I don’t know how much more.

Pumas USA (you may remember them as Chula Vista Pumas) – East Chula Vista area

• cost per year: $185 includes uniform, league fees, and pictures. All coaches are volunteer, so there are no coaching fees. Tournament fees are extra.

San Diego United – El Cajon & La Mesa area

• tryouts: BU12 Feb 15 & 17, 7-8:30pm at Granite Hills High School. See the United website for tryout dates for other ages. Almost every age group has a different tryout date & location.

• cost per year: $1,125 for U12. THIS page has more info about fees for different ages. Includes uniform, league fees, 4-day summer camp, and coaching fees. Tournaments are extra.

Crusaders Soccer Club (CSC) – Allied Gardens area

• tryouts: U12-U14, Feb 15 & 17, 4-5:30pm at Pershing Middle School. HERE is a pdf with more info for all ages.

• main fields: Pershing Middle School, Allied Gardens Rec Center
• cost per year: last years fees were $1,025.   Includes league fees, week-long team camp, coaching fees, 2 prs shorts, socks, backpack, Nike ball, the jerseys are on loan, but you end up keeping one each year.  Tournaments are extra.  I don’t know if the fees will go up for this coming season.

Coronado (Nado Select) – Coronado & Coronado Cays area

• tryouts:  BU12 Feb 19 & 20, 4-6pm at Coronado Cays Park across from the Strand State Beach.  See the Nado website for tryout dates for other ages.

• cost per year: last year’s fee was $1,025 per player, and that includes league fees, uniform, and coaching fees. Tournaments are extra.

La Mesa Matrix – La Mesa area

• U12 (AAA) Feb. 20 at Helix High School Lower Grass Field & Feb 21 at Grossmont HS Stadium.
• Both dates: 11am – 1:15pm
• ADDITIONAL TRYOUT FOR U12: FEB 23, 5:30-7pm (register at 5pm) at La Mesa Middle School.

Aztecs Futbol Club – South San Diego area

• tryouts:  The Aztecs don’t run typical “club-wide” tryouts.  Each coach decides whether or not they will have tryouts and usually schedules them as part of their normal practice schedule.

• main fields: Montgomery Waller Park (in between the 805 & 5 freeways on Palm Ave)
• cost per year: varies from team-to-team. Aztecs charge $140 per year for league fees.  Each team decides on uniforms and coaching fees, and those (along with tournament fees) are extra.

The Lions of Judah -  East Chula Vista & South San Diego area

• I found THIS website and THIS myspace page.

• main fields: I’m not sure…
• cost per year: I’m not sure on this either.  The Lions of Judah will be playing under the “AZTECS” name (like Pumas did last year).  I know the Aztecs charge $140 per player for one Tshirt & league fees.  Any expenses that the team wants to charge over that will be extra (uniforms, tournaments, coaching fees).

San Diego Pumas

I don’t know much about the San Diego Pumas.  They had some teams playing under the Aztecs club last year (they wore Pumas uniforms, but they were listed as “Aztecs” on all of the league forms & filings).  I don’t know if they’re going to be their own club this year or not, but I do know that they are the reason why Chula Vista Pumas changed their name to Pumas USA & changed their logo.   If anyone from San Diego Pumas wants to let me know more about the club, tryout info, and fees, feel free to email me at info@farpostblog.com, and I’ll post it here.
