That’s me in the middle.
I’m Carey Schumacher, a San Diego soccer mom (I also own and operate San Diego Barefoot Memories). Up in that photo, I’m surrounded by fellow awesome soccer moms Ronne & Kelley.
When I took on my first “team manager” job for my son’s U10 team, I started this blog to keep parents & kids up to date on team happenings. … but I’ll go back in time a bit…
My son is Matthew. He started playing soccer when he joined the Chula Vista Rangers in 2007 for U9 soccer. After that season ended, we moved him to the Bonita Rebels for U10, and a bunch of his friends came along. That’s when I took on the challenge of “TEAM MANAGER,” along with Kelley up there on the right, and I set up this blog so that I’d have a nice easy way to get info & announcements out to team families.
Once the Rebels U10 season ended, the team was happy but we we decided to move the team to the Aztecs to save some moola. So, for U11, Matthew played on “AZTECS THUNDER,” and Kelley & I kept managing the team. I kept using this blog as a way to get info out to all of the parents and families on the team. The U11 season ended, families went their separate ways, and Matt tried out for a few different clubs & chose Albion SC for his U12 year. NO, I was not the manager of that U12 team — what a nice change!
He played at Albion for two fun years (U12 & U13), and we decided to move to a club that’s closer to home and less expensive. He now plays for Pumas, along with a bunch of teammates from that ole awesome Aztecs Thunder team.
…we’re done with the recap now….
I’ve decided to take the Far Post Blog into the world of SAN DIEGO CLUB SOCCER (and the whole world of soccer, too).
If there’s something interesting going on in the world of soccer (world cup, MLS, WPS, EPL, NCAA, whatever), and I’ve got a spare moment, I’ll put it here.
I’ll post cool soccer videos that I find out in the soccer e-universe, and I’ll do my best to make sure there aren’t any bad words in the background songs used. Sadly, a LOT of people who post cool soccer stuff on YouTube use songs that are full of cruddy language. bummer. But I’ll find the family-friendly ones & post ‘em!
And of course, I’ll brag about my own kid & his friends.
Even though I do care about club soccer in San Diego, I care about my kids more, and this is my blog, so THERE! (I’m so mature.)
Speaking of Matt & his buddies… I just happen to have a picture handy! (amazing)
Here he is with some of those buddies at the Home Depot Center when his whole team won a trip to the David Beckham Academy in 2009. That was a FUN weekend!
Let’s hope there’s more to come!
~Carey
